List and discuss the six steps in the EBP approach put forth by Mayer (2004).
What will be an ideal response?
Step one is the development of a question that needs to be answered. Part of the issue with this question is the identification of the outcome desired. A second step is the review of the professional literature that is relevant and will give the professional the best information available. The third step is the identification of a study that most closely resembles the issue to be addressed and a review of the outcomes. The fourth step is an analysis and critique of the study to determine how useful it is. Step five is to determine how the study findings can be applied to the current situation. The last step is to evaluate the results of what was used in practice—was it successful?
