As you will read, the UK government wanted to introduce a new contract, there was industrial action following a breakdown in negotiations, and then it was thought that there was agreement reached. However, the Junior Doctors voted against the introduction of the new contract and then the new contract was imposed. At the time of writing we are waiting to see if further industrial action will take place. Write a short negotiation brief for both the employer and the employee, explaining what they needed to consider to try to resolve the dispute.

What will be an ideal response?

Employer
? Need to consider the suggestions from the Junior Doctors. Is there something that
could be addressed, even if their full demands are not met?
? Need to demonstrate that issues relating to the Working Time Regulations 1998
have been met.
? Need to show how there is protection for the employees, to stop them having to
work excessive hours.
Employee
? Need to understand the demands for a 24 hour NHS. Need to put forward
reasonable suggestions as to how this can be achieved.
? Need to engage with change. Cannot try to block all change for the future.
? Need to demonstrate how the proposals could work.
