The pectoral girdle is made up of the scapulae and clavicles, which join the scapula and the sternum. The pectoral girdle supports the arms. The pelvic girdle is made up of two pelvic bones that attach in the back to the sacrum. These are joined in the front at the pubic symphysis, which is composed of cartilage. The pelvic girdle serves to connect the legs with the pelvis. Both girdles allow the body to move and change position.
