A 65-year-old female presents with a positive medical history. She states that she has had six documented TIAs within the last 12 months. She is in the dental office for the extraction of the maxillary third molars. She states to the dental auxiliary that she is very anxious and was unable to sleep the night before due to anxiety. Before the dentist can enter the treatment room, the patient loses consciousness.


Stop all dental treatment and position the patient in a slightly elevated way, while monitoring vital signs. Administer oxygen and make sure that emergency medical responders have been called. Keep the patient calm and quiet. Be prepared to perform CPR if necessary.
