Discuss the 2010 findings of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on their child abuse and neglect study

What will be an ideal response?

The student should indicate that the Fourth National Incidence Study of Child Abuse and Neglect found that child abuse and neglect nearly doubled in the U.S., from 1.4 million in 1986 to more than 2.8 million in 1993. During that same time, the number of seriously injured children quadrupled. Only 28% of the children identified as abused were investigated by a government agency. Risk factors that were identified in the study were single-parent households, large numbers of family members, and poverty, and girls were more at risk for sexual abuse.
