Spray guns have two trigger positions. The first one, which is from trigger at rest to about halfway pulled, will allow air, but no coating, to escape from the gun tip. The second position, from halfway to fully pulled, will allow both air and coating to escape from the gun tip. Proper triggering of the gun means while the technician is spraying, the air will constantly be escaping from the gun tip while the paint flow is turned on and off, depending on the position of the gun and the object being painted.
