Ans: There are three distinct phases in the cycle of violence: Phase 1: Tension building, Phase 2: Acute battering episode, and Phase 3: The honeymoon. The tension building phase is where the abuse begins, then continues to escalate in severity and types. Phase 2 occurs when the abuse escalates to physical assault and different actions need to be taken. The last phase of the cycle brings about some sort of apology from the batterer for the behavior and abuse. Attempts to reconcile are brought into action.
