Name the parts of the urinary system and tell what they do.
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary. Two kidneys are bean-shaped organs containing the functional unit of the kidney called the nephron. Each nephron has a glomerulus that allows water and dissolved substances to pass out of the blood. These substances travel through the coils of the nephron tube, and some of the water, nutrients, and minerals are reabsorbed into the bloodstream. This process leaves behind only waste products, certain salts, and varying amounts of water called urine.
Two ureters carry the collected urine to the bladder.
The urinary bladder stores urine and serves as a means for urine to exit the body.
