Explain who makes up the majority of the precarious workforce and why the prevalence of this type of work is growing.

What will be an ideal response?

1. The precarious workforce is comprised of workers who have uncertain, unpredictable, and risky promise for the future. This occurs in many industries, across many populations of people (e.g., agricultural workers, Uber drivers, adjunct faculty members at universities, etc.).
2. Workers in these occupations have few rights and very little power to advocate for themselves and/or for structural changes to the system.
3. Precarious work is cheaper for employers and helps them have better “bottom lines” to better compete in the global marketplace.
4. The most vulnerable members of the precarious labor force are the poor and those who are undocumented workers or migrant workers.
