The two most important hormones during puberty are estradiol and testosterone. In mid teens, estradiol production is about eight times as high in females as it was before puberty, but only about twice as high in males. In contracts, testosterone production in males is about 20 times as high by mid-teens as it was before puberty, but in females it is only about 4 times as high.
