What are the differences between reward, legitimate, and referent power?
What will be an ideal response?
Reward power is based on the user’s ability to influence others by providing something of value to them. This includes giving positive reinforcements such as praise, recognition, pay raises, and promotions. Legitimate power is based on the user’s position of power. This is important so that employees will tend to feel that they should do what the boss says. Referent power is based on the user’s personal source of power relationships with others. People using this power tend to express requests as opposed to orders.
