a. phlebitis c. thrombosis

B
Infiltration (accidental administration of a medication or solution not capable of causing injury into surrounding tissue) may result from dislodging the device from the vein, inserting the wrong type of device, or using the wrong-gauge needle. Using a high pressure pump may also cause infiltration or vein irritation. The client usually complains of discomfort at the IV site. Cool and blanching (pale) skin is an indication of infiltration. Other symptoms of infiltration include skin tightness, decreased movement of extremity, pain, and discomfort.
