Why is Mexico so negatively involved with the U.S. regarding illicit drugs and trafficking?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: A good answer should discuss the location of Mexico to the U.S. which allows for drugs to be brought into the U.S. via land through the use of tunnels, on persons, through motor vehicles, and via motor boats. It has become a major stopping point for illicit drugs from around the world prior to entering the U.S. Colombia and Mexico formed an alliance and with the aid of major drug cartels and the use of violence these countries aided in Mexico becoming a hub to distribute illicit drugs into the U.S.
