Describe the normal booking process in a jail

What will be an ideal response?

• Jails have a central area for booking, admitting, and releasing inmates. Police officers or county sheriff deputies bring arrested offenders to the jail; they are placed in a holding cell that can be for a single or as many as ten to twelve inmates. They are then identified and fingerprinted and their property is inventoried and stored. They receive a brief physical and mental health screening and usually talk to a social worker about the process and how potential release on bail or personal recognizance works. If they are there for a minor offense, they may be quickly released on bond, and are placed in a temporary holding area.
