Explain the risks associated with mixing energy drinks with alcohol

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER:
Ingesting alcohol and energy drinks together decreases one’s awareness of alcohol’s impairment. In other words, people are more likely to perceive that they are not as intoxicated as they are. Yet motor coordination, reaction time, and driving performance are still impaired. Consuming energy drinks and alcohol also negatively influences cognitive functioning. Moreover, the stimulant effects of the caffeine keep the person awake longer—a “wide-awake” drunk—which may allow him or her to consume even greater quantities of alcohol, increasing the chances of alcohol-related accidents, injuries, risk-taking behavior, and alcohol dependence. Yet, caffeine may not be the sole reason for the excessive intoxication. It is possible that energy drinks and alcohol provide a novel context and unusual cues for drinking that enhances the alcohol’s effect.?
