Explain why questionnaires are the most traceable tool for the verification of requirements
What will be an ideal response?
A questionnaire may be a blunt tool for gathering requirements, but is the most reliable one for verification of requirements. The reasons are:
• The definition of requirements is mature. By the time you need to verify a requirement, a valuable amount of requirements gathering has already been done. By providing a written, "black-and-white" definition that can be accepted or rejected, you concentrate the mind of the respondent. The vagueness and the blind alleys of oral discussions would not intrude.
• The flow of verification is the most traceable. The stakeholders and development team can point to an exact answer or to an exact definition as the source of their conclusions and decisions.
• Questionnaires are politically convenient. Finger pointing (or perhaps a real or an expedient loss of memory) is an unfortunate fact of any group undertaking. When things go wrong, members of the development team must be able to show that their decisions have been well-founded.
