What is a representation of a visual aid? Describe the types of representations a speaker can use.

What will be an ideal response?

- Representations are visual portrayals of reality.
- Textual graphics display words so the audience can see and hear the words at the same time.
- Diagrams are simple drawings or sketches that represent a more complex concept. They allow the speaker to emphasize the things that are most important.
- Maps are useful when the speech focuses on directions to, or relationships among, places. It need not be drawn to scale.
- Photographs should be used cautiously as they may reveal more information than intended.
- Memes should be recognizable by all of the audience and culturally accepted.
- Film and video require special equipment. Make sure the "bells and whistles" of the technology don't intrigue your audience more than your message does.
