Explain the classification system and standards, which places ICE/ERO detainees in appropriate categories.

What will be an ideal response?

The community, staff, contractors, volunteers, and detainees will be protected from harm through a formal classification process for managing and separating detainees by threat risk that is based on verifiable and documented data. Each detainee will be expeditiously classified upon admission to the facility and before being admitted into general population housing. Noncriminal detainees will be protected from harm by assigning detainees housing with persons of similar backgrounds and criminal history. Each detainee’s classification will be reviewed at regular intervals, when required by changes in the detainee’s behavior or circumstances, or upon discovery of additional, relevant information. Detainees must be given the chance to appeal their classification levels. The applicable content and procedures in this Standard will be communicated to the detainee in a language or manner which the detainee can understand.
