The four evaluation personas are: (1) Supportive role: in this role, the evaluators reinforces the task at hand, provides reminders about the importance of the evaluation or respective supportive tasks; and helps to brainstorm possible solutions to unexpected barriers. Many times the consumers of information are fully competent to undergo the tasks and stay the course needed to get the evaluation findings used in program decisions, but they lack confidence. The main focus of this role is to provide the evaluation consumers support to do the things they know are right to get the evaluation information included in the conversation. (2) Educational role: the role of the evaluator is to explain the research questions, design, analysis, and possible use in decisions; make sure that the formats that are used to present findings are clearly understood; inform or educate consumers in areas that seem to be missing and are vital to the use of the evaluation. The centerpiece of this technique is to inform or educate consumers in areas that seem to be missing and are vital to the use of the evaluation. The first two approaches are primarily supportive and collaborative; while the latter two can be employed when it looks like more aggressive encouragement is needed. (3) Advocate role: in this role, the evaluator illustrates critical points that are being neglected or overlooked. This role is effective when there is an emphasis on service consumer needs that may appear to be undervalued. (4) Militant role: this role is used when the evaluator feels like there is a need to apply political pressure to enhance the use of findings. The evaluator uses this role to rally political power outside an agency by utilizing the press, outside funders, or interested policymakers. However, the use of this approach could curtail further collaborative work.
