Provide two examples of current built-in accessibility on mobile devices or computers that support students with hearing impairments and how such built-in accessibility benefits the students and/or replaces older technology.
What will be an ideal response?
One example of built-in accessibility on a mobile devices that supports students with hearing impairments is FaceTime on iOS devices, such as an iPhone or iPad. With FaceTime an individual who is deaf or hard of hearing can either see their communication partner signing or read his/her lips. FaceTime can actually replace an older technology – Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf or text telephones (TTY). Another built-in accessibility feature for students who are deaf or hard of hearing is the vibrating alarms. Rather than needing a separate alarm, individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing can rely on a mobile device as an alarm via vibration. A final built-in accessibility feature for students who are deaf or hard of hearing can be the ability of a mobile device to connect to one’s hearing aids, this allows an individual who is hard of hearing to better understand telephone conversations.
