Describe transgender health and the services that should be made available to trans individuals short of medical transition treatments.

What will be an ideal response?

Trans individuals need health care for a variety of the same conditions and problems that cisgender people have: tobacco use, alcohol abuse, reproductive health, cancer, and mental health issues. Health care provided to trans individuals in the U.S. needs substantial improvement. Many trans people report experiencing discrimination from health care providers, so more education of providers is needed.
Many services should be made available to trans individuals short of medical transition treatments. These include (1) voice and communication therapy, to help the person speak in the range typical for their gender identity and communicate nonverbally in ways that match their gender identity; (2) supportive therapy and peer support to reduce stress; (3) for natal males, facial hair removal by electrolysis or other methods. Supportive therapy for the family is important, as well.
