What is worldview and how does it impact teaching and learning?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Answers to this question will vary but should include elements of the following: Worldview is the way you think the world should work. It is a set of values and beliefs about how the world operates. Worldview significantly impacts teaching and learning. Educators and children bring into the classroom diverse perspectives, histories, experiences, beliefs, and ways of behaving that are grounded in powerful identifications with cultural groups. If a student’s cultural identities are not similar to the teacher’s, there is a mismatch. This may lead to conflicting cultural values, a situation in which the teacher generally wins. Students must assimilate into the classroom environment, and adapt to the teacher’s expectations of what is acceptable behavior and acceptable approaches to learning, or risk falling behind quickly. Teachers make decisions on a daily basis about instructional materials, instructional strategies, curriculum they will follow, what they can expect of each student, how they need to communicate with each student, and how to assess learning.
