What are the essential elements of an experiment?
What will be an ideal response?
The essential elements of experimental research are experimental and control groups, randomization, pre-test and post-test, and the application of the intervention factor. The experimental group includes those individuals or other units of analysis that receive the intervention, such as a health care service or program. The control group includes those individuals or other units of analysis that do not receive the intervention or that receive an alternative form of intervention or the normal services. Randomization involves taking a set of units and allocating them to an experimental group or control group through a random procedure. Pre-tests are tests given before an experimental intervention or program, and tests given after the experimental intervention or program are called post-tests. The intervention factor is the independent variable that acts upon the dependent variable. It typically takes the form of an experimental stimulus that is either present or absent.
