How would the advantages of the dryer sheets affect the sales of Snuggle liquid fabric softener?
What will be an ideal response?
There are certain benefits to using dryer sheets. For one, dryer sheets provide “superior static cling” control. This advantage over liquid softeners is not likely to interfere with the success of Snuggle in the long run. Another advantage of dryer sheets is convenience. Because the dryer sheets are placed directly into the dryer after the wash is completed, an individual does not have to wait until the washing machine reaches the rinse cycle, then pour in the liquid softener. For those individuals who put their laundry in and then come back approximately 20 minutes later to place the washed clothes into the dryer, it is an inconvenience to use liquid softeners. Many people do not want to wait in the laundry room for the washing machine to reach a particular cycle. An alternative to this “waiting around” is to use dryer sheets.
Because dryer sheets generally provide the same benefits as do the liquid softeners, many consumers may wonder what the purpose of a liquid softener is. If it does the same thing and is inconvenient, why use it? If the majority of consumers think this way, then Snuggle (along with other liquid fabric softeners) is in trouble.
The inconvenience of liquid fabric softener may prevent the success of Snuggle liquid fabric softener, although this does not appear to be the case because Snuggle and other liquid fabric softeners have succeeded. This suggests that there are some consumers who feel that the liquid fabric softeners are not an inconvenience and that they provide superior benefits over the dryer sheets. These consumers will “save” the liquid fabric softener market from failure.
