Would it be possible and/or appropriate to design a genetic screen to look for a gene(s) involved in homosexuality?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers may vary, but may include similar issues about privacy and confidentiality
that may be an issue for any genetic disorder. Patients may be interested in identifying a genetic component to better understand their psychology and physiology, but it is important to remember that homosexuality is likely to be a multifactorial predisposition controlled by a combination of many different genes as well as environmental factors. Thus, the chances of identifying a single gene responsible for homosexuality are slim and this complicates any attempt to design a
wide-scale screening effort.
