Answers will vary, but should include the following:           Advantages: They are short (typically one minute); theoral reading fluency (ORF) assessment is considered to be a quick way to determine students' fluency levels;They are monitoring tools to determine when student progress levels off or declines so that teachers know to make changes to their instruction, and they indicate if students are benefiting sufficiently from instruction and when instruction should be adjusted.            Disadvantages: If they are used without instructional modifications, they do not boost student achievement; some experts state that they are not accurate measures of reading rate or comprehension; and one-minute, timed readings may overestimate students' reading rates.
