The Presentation layer prepares the data from the Application layer for transmission over the network. It also reformats data received from the lower layers in the protocol stack for the Application layer. Presentation layer components include file extensions and coding schemes such as BMP, WAV, JPEG, MIDI, HTML, EBCDIC, and ASCII.
The Presentation layer has the following responsibilities:
