Answer the following statement(s) true (T) or false (F)
Explain the process of using the Binomial test to compare the categories of a dichotomous variable.
Ans: The binomial test is an appropriate statistical measure for determining whether the frequencies between two categories of a nominal variable are significantly different. When a researcher wants to know whether a given set of proportions of a dichotomous variable are different from a 50–50 split that would be normally expected in a variable such as gender, and if the researcher observes more females represented than males, the binomial test would tell whether this representation of more females in the sample is significantly different from the normally observed threshold of 50%?
The researcher needs three pieces of data in order to apply the binomial test. One is the threshold proportion (e.g., 50% or .5) to which you want to compare your data (e.g., 40 men and 45 women). The second is the number of people in one category (e.g., 40 men), and the third piece of data is the number in the second category (e.g., 45 women).
