Explain the defense of youth and how it relates to forming the mens rea. What is the current trend with regards to this defense and the crime of murder? Do you think it should apply or not apply to this crime?

What will be an ideal response?

Children under 7 cannot be charged with a crime. The concept is that children cannot for the mens rea for the crime. Current trend is some states have removed the defense of youth for homicide, and youthful offenders may be tried in adult court. Other states have lowered the
age of accountability for certain violent offenses. Explain why or why not this is a good practice.
