Wipe the fleshy portion of the middle finger with an alcohol swab. When dry, "milk" the finger towards the tip and make a quick puncture with a sterile lancet. Collect the blood that emerges in a heparinized capillary tube to the red mark. Seal the tube on both sides with clay. Place in a microhematocrit centrifuge and spin for 5 minutes. Read the percentage of red blood cells against the grid provided.
