When eyewitness evidence is not available, it has often been stated that investigators and officers should ask, as guidelines in investigating crimes, these three questions in guiding their investigation; and secondly, why are those three key words critical to the findings of facts?

What will be an ideal response?


Who had the means of committing the crime, who had the opportunity to commit the crime and lastly, who had the motive to commit the crime? The students response to the second half of this question should related to burden of proof, being inclusive and using those key words (means, opportunity and motive) in directing their investigation.
