What is modernization theory?
What will be an ideal response?
Modernization theory is an approach to understanding global poverty and inequality and
is based on the belief that countries that are less developed are held back by traditional
values and beliefs. From this perspective, economic development can be achieved by
values and attitudes that are similar to those in high-income nations. A corollary is that
economic growth occurs most rapidly in a capitalist economy. Modernization theory is
associated with the functionalist perspective in sociology.
