What are the opportunity costs for parents sending their children to school in many of the LDCs?
What will be an ideal response?
Children can provide valuable assistance around the house and farm while the benefits of school may not be felt for a long time. Children may also hold wage paying jobs bringing money into the house instead of out of it to pay for school fees. Many of the economies in the LDCs do not even truly reward formal education so even when there are payoffs they are not always worth the costs. School can be seen as a waste of time and resources when the child does not seem to be doing very well with their studies anyway.
