In lay terms, how does DNA analysis operate?
What will be an ideal response?
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is the basic building code for all the human body’s chromosomes. Every cell of an individual’s body, including skin, organs, and bodily fluids, contains the same DNA. Portions of the DNA structure are as unique to each individual as fingerprints. Inside each cell in the body are strands of chromosomes, or genetic material. Genes, the fundamental unit of heredity, are arranged along the chromosomes and instruct the body’s cells to make proteins that determine everything from hair color to susceptibility to diseases. They also pass genetic instructions from one generation to the next. DNA profiling uses DNA samples obtained from body fluid, hair, or bones to determine whether they came from a particular subject.
