Many college process technology instrumentation programs are written around the concept of the control loop. On process units that are fully automated the control loop gives a technician the ability o control a much larger arrangement and scope of processes. Control loops can be run in Automatic, Manual, or Cascade. The setpoint and process variable are clearly displayed side by side. The operating percentage on the control valve and whether it is fail open or fail closed. The information contained in the control loop allows a technician to troubleshoot a wide variety of problems.
