Veblen agreed with Marx that there is a material base to the social (super)structure and there are basically two classes although he claimed they were based in wealth as opposed to production ownership; whereas Marx saw individual labor as the foundation of capitalism (and society more generally); Velblen saw production as social endeavor that grows out of the efforts of managers and experts
