Explain how different types of light affect the way we see colors.
What will be an ideal response?
The type of light used to compare one color to another greatly affects color. As has been mentioned earlier, the type of light and how the surfaces are viewed can greatly
affect how a person perceives color. When light is applied to a color, some of the light rays are absorbed, while others are either reflected, or can pass through either the mica or a prismatic component of the finish, and be refracted back to the viewer.
Depending on the light source and whether it contains a full color spectrum of wavelengths, paint may look different in different types of light, or have metamerism.
Metamerism can be caused by not having the proper shape metallic in the mix, or by something (usually a metallic) being added which is not in the original mix, or, to a lesser degree, whether the metallic lay is incorrect due to poor spray technique. Another variance is flop, which means that a paint color looks different when viewed at different angles.
