What is FERPA?

FERPA is the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. It was enacted in 1974 and written specifically for students and parents. FERPA applies to institutions that receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education (such as school districts). FERPA guarantees students and parents the right to inspect and review their education records, the right to seek to amend education records, and the right to have control over the disclosure of information from those education records.
