Discuss how childcare patterns have shifted in recent decades. Hypothesize about what effect this may have on the socialization of children.

What will be an ideal response?

Majority of parents work outside the home. Childcare is left to relatives, friends, or professional caregivers. Twenty-nine percent of mothers reported that they do not work outside the home. More fathers are also assuming the primary childcare role in the home: According to a recent study, about 16% of stay-at-home parents today are fathers. Means that children are being socialized less by their parents and more by a range of people. Also could mean earlier start to institutionalized socialization (e.g., daycare or preschool).
