What is meant by "well-graded" aggregate?

A well-graded aggregate is one which contains a gradation of particle sizes so that the voids between large -size aggregate are filled with smaller-size aggregate, and the voids between smaller-size aggregate are filled with yet smaller-size aggregate, and so on. Thus, a well-graded aggregate gives well-packed mix of aggregates, necessary for strong concrete.
