What are some of the things you can do to help repairs or preventative maintenance go smoother once you are ready to start?

Before you remove a part or unwire a system, take your cellphone or other
device with a camera and snap a few pictures. This will give you a visual
roadmap back to the original system configuration and help with any questions
you may have. Keep all the parts together. To fix most equipment you will need
to remove covers, take off brackets, remove parts, and in general end up with a
pile of stuff that needs to go back on the machine once you have finished the
repairs. Keeping everything together makes the assembly process much easier.
Get help before you need it not after you have created an emergency. Take good
notes. Often during repairs, we learn better ways to do things, track down
information that did not come with the equipment, or make other discoveries that
can help us later. Break the mold. We tend to get stuck in a rut and do things the
same way over and over again because that is the way we learned to do it.
