Provide support for the following statement: "The best evidence supporting a biological basis for sexual orientation comes from genetic studies."

What will be an ideal response?

Twin and family studies have shown that homosexuality has a genetic component, but early studies likely overestimated the concordance rate of about 50%. When participants for studies were recruited differently, so that sexual preference was not considered for recruitment, the concordance rate dropped to 18-37%. Several genes have been linked to sexual orientation. One region of the X chromosome. Xq28, was shared in a majority of gay brothers in one study and confirmed in later research. DNA region 8q12 has also been linked to homosexual orientation, as has the 7q36 region on chromosome 7. Lastly, an allele of the SHH gene has been linked to homosexuality in men as well as male-male sexual activity in fruit flies.
