It is correlated with increased psychological health, reductions in impulsivity, and decreases in drinking and drug use. Meetings allow individuals to recognize they are not alone in their struggles and see that others have experienced similar problems as a result of their addiction. Meetings provide members with open and accepting forum to discuss addiction related issues. These forums are places where recovery minded individuals with whom the trials of addiction can be shared. Different meeting formats allow individuals to examine their recovery from various perspectives and through different lenses. Meetings also fill gaps in daily schedules that were once occupied with drinking and drug use
