Explain what W. I. and Dorothy S. Thomas meant when they said, "If people define situations as real, they are real in their consequences." What is this quote called?

What will be an ideal response?

They meant that our behavior evolves from the specific ways we look at life, based on the views we learn from the groups to which we belong. Our behavior, then, is the result of our definitions, not the result of something that objectively exists. This quote is known by sociologists as the Thomas theorem.
