The text discusses fictional character Dexter Morgan, whom his friends know as an alyst for the Miami Police Department but who is privately a selective serial killer. What can this character tell us about reality? Discuss why or why not this kind of character might be classified as a psychopath.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers may varyReading about and watching Dexter can illustrate genuine phenomena. Engaging in a heinous act, such as the killing of neighborhood pets, and needing to be taught to act "as if" one feels certain emotions are associated with the personality disorder known as psychopathy. In some respects, Dexter Morgan is quite similar to those who have the personality disorder of psychopathy. These similarities are most apparent in his superficial emotions and lack of the capacity for deep emotional attachments. But Dexter does not have some of the other characteristics and much of the history that are core elements of psychopathy. We might conclude that Dexter Morgan is a charming fictional character who can portray what it's like to have difficulty feeling deep emotions-but it's not clear whether he would be classified as a psychopath.
