Describe the basic concepts of the six-factor social cognitive career theory (SCCT).

What will be an ideal response?

This theory proposes that people's career choices are heavily influenced by their interests. The simplest version of this theory contains four factors: self-efficacy (your belief in your own ability), outcome expectations (what you think will happen in a given situation), interests (what you like), and choice goals (what you want to achieve). The six-factor model adds two variables: supports (environmental things that help you) and barriers (environmental factors that block or frustrate you). The six-factor model has received some research support. SCCT has been used by career counselors and life coaches to help people make initial career choices and to navigate career changes over time.
