What anatomical changes occur in a person who develops atherosclerosis, in comparison with an individual without this condition?
What will be an ideal response?
In a person who develops atherosclerosis, the walls of the elastic arteries become more rigid as a result of the deposition of plaques. The plaques prevent the stretching and recoil of these arteries when a bolus of blood is pushed into them, and this causes coronary blood pressures to rise to enable sufficient amounts of blood to pass through the narrower diameter and no longer resilient arteries.
