What is a portfolio and how might it be used in a middle grades classroom?
What will be an ideal response?
A portfolio is a collection of student work that may be selected to showcase best quality, show progress over time, or both. Portfolios are flexible vehicles for organizing and viewing all kinds of assessment tools, from traditional paper-and-pencil tests to performances that include teacher feedback and student self-assessments. A comprehensive portfolio should emphasize both process and product and should serve as a short evolutionary record of progress toward learning goals. Portfolios allow the unique talents of young adolescents to be displayed as well as showing growth over time.
