How does soil texture influence the growth of vegetation?

Soil texture helps determine a soil's capacity to retain moisture and air that are necessary for plant growth. Soils with a higher proportion of larger particles tend to be well aerated and allow water to infiltrate the soil quickly. Clayey soils retard water movement, becoming waterlogged and deficient in air.
