Answers will vary. Conflict is a normal part of family life, but violence is not normal. The various forms of violence that can occur in a family are as follows:1. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is abuse that occurs between people in a close relationship. The term intimate partner refers to current and former spouses, couples who live together, and current and former boyfriends or girlfriends.2. Child maltreatment (also called child abuse) includes a broad range of behaviors that place a child at serious risk or result in serious harm, including physical and sexual abuse, neglect, and emotional mistreatment.3. Elder abuse (sometimes called elder mistreatment) is any knowing, intentional, or negligent act by a caregiver or other person that causes harm to people age 65 or older. This term includes physical, psychological, and sexual abuse; neglect; isolation from family and friends; deprivation of basic necessities such as food and heat; not providing needed medications; and financial exploitation.
